These 5 Fun Spring Activities Are Sure to Get Your Family Moving

Posted by Churchich Content Team Content on April 7, 2023

Spring is the perfect time to shake off the winter blues, step away from the electronics and involve the entire family in making fun, outdoor plans. You may even find your plans leading to an enjoyable project or two.Need some ideas to get you and our family out of the house and into the outdoors? These top 5 activities will help you get started.

Plant and Watch it Grow

Planting your own garden this Spring will inspire you and your family to try new things, get more active and spend more time outdoors. For kids, especially, this experience may give them more of a chance that they will enjoy gardening all their lives.

Involve the entire family in choosing plants, starting your seeds, and laying out your garden. Make it small, make it doable for yourself, and most of all, make it FUN!

Hike a Trail

Family hikes are a great way to get outside and explore nature, local parks, or even State Parks together. Grab those water bottles and choose a trail with a destination such as an overlook, waterfall, historic site, stream, or lake.

Let your kids have time along the way to investigate things they find interesting and take in all that nature has to offer. Check the website of the park you have in mind to learn about the don’t-miss scenery, special features, the length and challenge ratings of the trails, and whether or not pets are welcome.

Go Fly a Kite

When was the last time you flew a kite? Believe it or not, flying a kite can deliver numerous physical and mental health benefits, not to mention it's just plain fun. Build and design your own kite, or save yourself the hassle and purchase one from just about any store. Either way, flying a kite is a low-cost activity that will get you moving and enjoying the great outdoors.

Maybe even take an extra kite or two for the onlookers who might want to join the activity. Be on the lookout for a breezy spring day so you can grab your kites and head out for a day your family will never forget!

Attend an Outdoor Concert

Outdoor concerts make for an excellent spring activity. Listening to your favorite music with your favorite people in the beauty of the great outdoors sounds like a day well spent. It’s also an opportunity to watch live musicians, point out different instruments and sounds to your kids or just dance and be silly with each other.

Outdoor concerts are typically free events and open to the public. Some venues even offer games and bounce houses to keep your younger ones entertained. So grab your chairs, a big cozy blanket, and a few of your favorite snacks, and enjoy listening to live music for a couple of hours.

Head to the Park

Neighborhood or community parks can offer entertainment and exercise that goes way beyond the traditional swing set. Your kids will have a blast scrambling up rope nets and navigating obstacles in play ports. See-saws, giant slides, zip lines, and mini rock-climbing walls are just some of the interactive fun your kids will enjoy.

Many community parks now have outdoor full-body workout stations designed to be used by anyone, no matter their age or fitness level.
